As if winning a division one national wrestling title wasn’t hard enough, think about doing it with only one leg. That’s exactly what Arizona State senior Anthony Robles had to overcome in order to achieve his goal.
One Legged Wrestler Doesn’t Feel Disabled
Having been born with only one leg and missing part of his hip, Robles is used to getting around without two legs. While Robles is able to go anywhere using just his one leg, he usually uses crutches to get where he needs to go. Robles didn’t start wrestling until his freshman year of of high school. That first year was tough for him, but he was able to wrestle his last two years of high school and go undefeated.
Robles Relies On His one legged wrestler Ability
Knowing on one leg he is at a disadvantage in his match, Robles usually goes down on one knee to bring his opponent down to him. Down on the mat, wrestling at 125 pounds, Robles usually has the advantage with his upper body strength being able to bench press 300 pounds.
