Egypt-What’s Really Happening In The Streets (Video) | America's Breaking Local And World News

AmericasNewsNow.com | Breaking News-Egypt-What’s Really Happening In The Streets. While some media outlets show a generic version of what’s happening in the streets of Cairo, Egypt, this behind the scenes video tells the real story of what’s going on.

Although President Obama of the U.S. has called for peace and Egypt’s military to use restraint and not retaliate, it appears his plea is falling on deaf ears. This video, taken Saturday evening, shows many bloody protestors, some mortally wounded. Rather than come out and take a stance one way or the other, both President Obama and Secretary of State Clinton have tried to straddle the fence on the Egypt issue so that they don’t come up on the losing side.

Rather than call for Mubarak’s resignation, the U.S. has been reluctant to choose sides. Although President Obama called for Mubarak to turn the internet back on, perhaps he and Secretary of State Clinton could take a couple pointers from from Juju the 8 year old Saudi girl who posted a video on Youtube urging Mubarak to resign.

Jimmer Freddette, The Best Scorer In The World And You Got Jimmered (Video) | America's Breaking Local And World News

Americas News Now | Latest News Story-Jimmer Fredette, The Best Scorer In The World And You Got Jimmered. Who is Jimmer Fredette? Well, as Kevin Durant on Twitter posted, “He’s the best scorer in the world.” That’s a pretty big accolade coming from one of the NBA’s leading scorers. But who is Jimmer Fredette really?

Jimmer Fredette will likely go down as BYU’s leading all-time scorer. His biggest accomplishment was only dropping 43 points against number 4 in the country San Diego State. Hence the term, You got Jimmered. Standing only 6’2″, short for NBA standards, Fredette is being compared to the likes of Stephen Curry, Rajon Rondo, and Chris Paul–they types of guys he’ll need to defend at the next level.

The best scorer in the world, averaging over 27 points a game, who would have thought a Mormon from Utah would have such basketball talent? While critics can’t agree exactly where he will be taken in the lottery round of the draft, most agree at least somewhere in the twenties. Oh, and the next time you see a player almost break an ankle in a basketball game, just remember, He got Jimmered.

The Taliban in Pakistan: We’ve got a bigger problem now – CNN.com | America's Breaking Local And World News

The Enemy Of My Enemy Is My Friend

Editor’s Note: The staff at CNN.com has recently been intrigued by the journalism of Vice, an independent media company and Web site based in Brooklyn, New York. VBS.TV is Vice’s broadband television network. The reports, which are produced solely by Vice, reflect a very transparent approach to journalism, where viewers are taken along on every step of the reporting process. We believe this unique reporting approach is worthy of sharing with our CNN.com readers.
Brooklyn, New York (VBS.TV) — In a recent trip to Pakistan to report on the recent spike in the region’s violence and bloodshed, I heard over and over the same sentiment from people on the ground; America’s war on terror is falling flat on its face.

The military conflict in neighboring Afghanistan, repeatedly cited by locals, sends a constant flood of guns, refugees, militants and heroin into Pakistan.

Heroin is now actually cheaper than hashish in cities such as Lahore. The Kalashnikov culture, the foundation of which was laid 30 years ago when the CIA financed the mujahedeen, is all-consuming. According to the Pakistanis I spoke to, it’s all taken a devastating toll on the country and created the next generation of militants at the same time.

In Peshawar, I met with Rahimullah Yusufzai, who was one of the last people to interview Osama bin Laden and one of Pakistan’s most respected journalists.

He emphasized that much of the resulting anti-Western sentiment in the country is because of anger directed at American foreign policy.

“People have suffered, and they are willing to take revenge,” he said. “All villages have been attacked, women and children have been killed. So the Taliban can very easily motivate these families to supply suicide bombers.”

Today’s anti-West tide in Pakistan boils down to reactivity, retaliation and revenge.

“In Pashtun society, taking revenge is very important,” Yusufzai said. “You know, there is a saying in Pashto: ‘Even if you take revenge after 100 years, it’s not too late.’ And most of these I believe are retaliation attacks. Suicide bombings and the use of IEDs (improvised explosive devices) are the two most effective means of weaponry that the militants can use in this part of the world.”

See the rest of The Taliban in Pakistan at VBS.TV

It’s important to note that the more people I interviewed, the clearer it became that the Taliban and al Qaeda in Pakistan have abandoned the holier pursuit of imposing strict Islamic law on the region. For now, they are simply young, angry and vengeful beyond belief.

More precisely, I was told they are reacting to decades of interventionist and not-so-covert flip-flopping American policy dating back to the Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan administrations.

In Peshawar, I also tracked down Shabir Ahmed Khan, the provincial secretary of Jamaat-i-Islami, a multimillion-member Islamic movement widely considered in Pakistan to be al Qaeda friendly. As soon as we sat down, I could tell he was pissed.

“The problems surrounding us here are not caused by Taliban or al Qaeda,” he said. “It’s the Western policies. If Westerners are going to kill and murder us, then we will have to fight back.”

He continued, uninterrupted: “There’s a saying: ‘The enemy of my enemy is my friend.’ America is playing the role of an enemy, and al Qaeda is the reaction to it. People need to realize this. No one has the right to dictate over a free country. They force their political and social policies on us, which they have no right to.”

NBA suspends O.J. Mayo 10 games for positive test – NBA – Yahoo! Sports | America's Breaking Local And World News

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP)—The NBA has suspended guard O.J. Mayo(notes) 10 games without pay for violating the league and union’s anti-drug program with a positive test.

The league announced the suspension Thursday for Mayo’s positive test for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). Mayo’s suspension will start Friday night when the Grizzlies visit Philadelphia, and he will be able to return Feb. 15 also against the 76ers in Memphis.

Mayo said in a statement released by the team that he is extremely disappointed he will miss 10 games as the Grizzlies are making a push for the playoffs. He blamed an over the counter supplement that he didn’t know was banned by the NBA for the positive test, but a team spokesman said Mayo declined to say which supplement he used.

“It was an honest mistake, but I take full responsibility for my actions,” Mayo said in the statement released by the team. I apologize to my fans, teammates and the Grizzlies organization for regrettably not doing the necessary research about what supplements I can put in my body.”

Mayo’s agent did not immediately return a message left at his office Thursday.

Mayo was the No. 3 pick overall in 2008 after only one season at USC, and Minnesota swapped him draft night deal to the Grizzlies for Kevin Love(notes). Mayo was runner-up to Chicago’s Derrick Rose(notes) for rookie of the year.

But the guard was moved to the bench earlier this season, starting just 15 of Memphis’ 45 games this season. He’s been bandied about as possible trade bait even while ranking fourth on the Grizzlies with 12.2 points per game.

Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley said Mayo will continue practicing with the team during his suspension.

“O.J. had a lack of judgment but has shown complete accountability,” Heisley said in a statement. “We will continue to support O.J. during this time as we have from the moment he joined the team in 2008. He has unselfishly done everything we have asked of him, and we expect him to grow as a player and a person from this experience.”

Promising a “Friday of Wrath”, Egyptinas vowed to take to the streets to continue their protests in an effort to overthrow the government led by President Mubarak. I don’t know about Egyptians, but if the U.S. government ever took away Americans’ Facebook and Twitter, you better believe there’d be blood on the streets.

So what do you think of the rioting in Egypt? Is the government there corrupt and due for a change or are Egyptian citizens just overreacting and tired of high unemployment? Leave your comments below.

Mamma Didn’t Raise No Dummy-Obama And Gibbs Realize Value Of Social Media | America's Breaking Local And World News

AmericasNewsNow.com | Breaking News-Mamma Didn’t Raise No Dummy-Obama And Gibbs Realize Value Of Social Media. In a statement by press secretary Robert Gibbs on Thursday, it’s clear the Whitehouse, both Obama and Gibbs included, realize the true value of social media on the internet.

Just a day after President Obama’s state of the union address, the Whitehouse solicited questions on Youtube. Citizens could post their questions via video or text. The next day, President Obama then responded to those questions with a Youtube video of his own. Both Obama and Gibbs, as well as the Whitehouse, can be found on Twitter as well as Facebook.

It’s clear the President and those around him realize the power of social media. So, if Twitter, Youtube and Facebook are good enough for the president, why aren’t you using them more? Below is a partial transcript of the Q and A where Gibbs addressed the question regarding the Whitehouse’s use of social media.

“Q. On one different topic, could you comment on the White House’s use of social media, which seems to be increasing? What’s the thinking behind that? Is Plouffe behind that? And is that something we’ll see continuing into the election?

MR. GIBBS: Well, I — look, obviously David is a big believer in social media. Are you talking about around the State of the Union, about some of the interactive stuff around the State of the Union?

Q. Yes, and the YouTube thing today.

MR. GIBBS: Well, obviously YouTube is a reprisal of I think something we did back in 2009. I think the President looks at something like YouTube as sort of an online town hall meeting.

Obviously a number of us use different types of social media like Twitter to communicate what the government is doing to the people in this country. I think it is a — I think it’s just another way of bringing people a little closer to the decisions that get made here and why. And I think the President, and the entire team, will continue to look for avenues and opportunities to expand the use of those entities, again, whether that be Twitter, whether that be YouTube or other aspects of social media.”

Since you now realize the true value of social media,  follow us on Twitter, or hookup with  President Obama there.

Egypt Internet Shut Down (Video) | America's Breaking Local And World News

Breaking News | Americas News Now. Egypt Internet Shut Down. As Egyptian protestors have promised a “Friday of Wrath” aimed at ending Hosni Mubarak’s 30-year rule, the country’s security forces have clamped down by shutting off internet access.

The Egypt internet shut down comes as a result of the government attempting to control the backlash of protests tahat are trying to end President Mubarak’s rule. Egyptian protestors have been emboldened by Tunisia’s recent overthrow of their government.

Shutting off the internet is likely to make things worse for Mubarak’s government. It’s likely the government will take some sort of action such as reshuffling cabinet members if nothing else, just to try to calm the masses. However, that type of move by Mubarak may not be substantial enough for the angry Egyptian rioters.

Marquette Basketball Revealed-A Lesson In Life And Social Media (Video) | America's Breaking Local And World News

AmericasNewsNow.com | Breaking News-Marquette Basketball Revealed-A Lesson In Life And Social Media. In late 2010, Jess Atkinson’s team at 3 Penny Films embedded with the Marquette University basketball team. Below is the first video they edited and filmed in a multi-part series that covers the school’s basketball team.

Marquette Basketball Revealed tells a story much bigger than basketball. By his own admission, head coach Buzz Williams says he feels a responsibility much greater than just teaching the kids basketball. In the first video of the Marquette Basketball Revealed series, Coach Williams holds a Life Lessons class on Character Revealed. At this point, I’ve only watched the first video in the series. I’m excited to watch many more of them and am impressed with not only what Coach Williams is doing, but what the school is doing with the videos and how it relates to social media.

You see, for those interested, Marquette Basketball Revealed tells us a lot about where social media is going. The school obviously wants to market itself, and rather than spend thousands on TV commercials or mailing lists, which they still may anyway, Marquette has chosen to present a series of documentary style films focusing on their basketball team. It just so happens that they have a pretty good team with a pretty decent coach. But Marquette’s forward thinking choice to use social media will undoubtedly pay dividends in the long run. Releasing the videos on their own website as well as Youtube, Marquette is making a statement about their values. Marquette’s values are reflecting what Web 2.0 and social media have been calling for–authenticity and transparency. It’s still unclear how Marquette’s basketball team will finish this year. But make no doubt about it, because of Marquette’s choice to use social media marketing to promote their school and brand their image, Marquette Basketball Revealed should continue to pay dividends back to the school long into the future.
